Basic Knowledge About Wedding Rings

Behind wedding rings there is so much signification. They symbolize love, unity, devotion, faithfulness, and much more. Behind every couple’s wedding rings are stories of wedding memories, how they got engaged, and a lot of unique ideas. Aside from being eye catching and beautiful wedding bands deliver so many messages. Not only do these messages differ between each couple, but they also are varying based on ethnic customs and cultural background.

The Traditions Behind Wedding Bands

Most people know the basics behind wedding rings. The wedding band is worn on the ring finger. But depending on where you live, it can be worn on the left or the right hand. In Western countries people where wedding rings on the left hand, whereas in Russia, Germany, Bulgaria, Norway, Poland, and other countries, they are worn on the right hand. The ring finger was once believed to have the vein of love and so that is how the tradition of wearing it on this finger began.

To have the spouses name and the wedding date engraved on the inside of the bands is a common European custom for wedding bands. That way the ring not only symbolizes the marriage union, and also their commitment to one another.

In Western culture, wedding rings are gifts exchanged between the couple on their wedding day and often an engagement ring is presented to the woman when the man proposes. In other cultures wedding rings will be exchanged at other times.

In some cultures it is the job of the ring bearer to bring forth the wedding bands on a pillow. Typically a young boy is chosen for this job and usually he is selected from the relatives of the couple. In other cultures the best man is in charge of taking care of the wedding rings. He will then present them to the couple at the time they exchange their vows. Many see that this is the best man’s primary job; to act as protector of the wedding rings.

So if you are looking to get a wedding ring, think of the meaning and traditions behind the wedding rings. Then consider what the wedding rings for you and your future spouse will symbolize in your relationship.

Why do bands tune down their guitars half a step when playing live?

Ive heard many bands do this. They record a song in say standard tuning on the album, but live they have their guitars tuned down half a step when usually majority of the songs are in standard. Any scientific reason for this or something? im guessing it might make it easier on the singer?

For a couple reasons:

1. It makes it easier for the singer to hit the high notes which is important when you are live because there are no do-overs

2. It makes it easier bend the strings of the guitar so can bend the note easier and further

Green Day Revives Punk Rock Music

Green Day is an American punk rock trio composed of Tre Cool on drums, Mike Dirnt on bass and Billie Joe Armstrong on lead vocals and guitars. They have backup members for guitars (Jason White), keyboards (Jason Freese) and trumpet (Ronnie Blake).

During the mid 90s, along with other Californian bands like Rancid and The Offspring, Green Day revived the popularity of the punk rock scene in the United States. The success of Green Day and other punk rock bands have influenced the new generation of punk rock bands like Good Charlotte and Sum41.

Having sold over 25 million records in the U.S. alone and over 65 million albums worldwide, Green Day is one of the most successful punk rock bands of all time.

Green Day have successfully won three Grammy Awards Best Rock Album for American Idiot, Best Alternative Album for Dookie and Record of the Year for the single Boulevard of Broken Dreams.

The story of Green Day started when childhood friends Mike Dirnt and Billy Joe Armstrong, which were both 14 years old in 1986, decided to form a 2 person band that they called Sweet Children.

Performing their first live act at the workplace of Armstrong`s mom, Sweet Children experience their first exposure as a band. In 1998, however, Al Sobrante joined the band as their drummer. The three piece band soon switched their band name to Green Day after a marijuana incident and played their first performance at Sobrante`s school in Contra Costa College, San Pablo, California.

When Larry Livermore of Lookout! Records saw Green Day performed, he offered the band a record deal and immediately released their first EP in 1989 called 1,000 Hours. The band recorded two other EPs known as Slappy and Sweet Children.

When Sobranted moved to California to attend college, Tre Cool became a temporary drummer for Green Day. However, when Sobrante couldn`t commit to the band any further, Tre became the permanent drummer for the band.

In early 1991, Green Day released their second album known as Kerplunk! under Lookout! Records, while featuring Tre Cool on drums. Green Day successfully performed plenty of live acts during 1992 and 1993 all throughout U.S. and Europe. The second album sold over fifty thousand albums in the U.S. alone and over two million records worldwide.

With the release of the successful Kerplunk! album, Green Day was a focus of major record labels and the band ultimately left Lookout Records. Although many fans regarded Green Day as a sell out, the trio had no choice but to move.

In 1994, Dookie became a major commercial hit, after recording it in a mere three weeks. Songs like basket case, when I come around and Longview all became #1 songs on different charts. Because of this massive popularity, Green Day was able to perform at Woodstock 1994 and Lollapalooza. The following year, Green Day was nominated for nine awards while winning the Best Alternative Album.

Green Day released a single entitled J.A.R. in 1995, which was soon followed by their third album Insomniac. The album comprised of a darker and more melodic style of songs like Walking Contradiction, Stuck With Me and Brain Stew/Jaded. After winning an MTV Video Music Award, Green Day took a break from producing music and performing concerts, claiming exhaustion.

In 1996, after their much criticized break, Green Day recorded and released their nimrod album. Major hit songs like Good Riddance (Time of Your Life), Redundant and Hitchin` a Ride were products of the band`s experimental style, far from their standard pop punk rock signature. The band again took two years off to spend time with their families.

When Green Day came back to the music scene in 2000, they released an album called Warning:, which reflects a more mature version of their music. However, the Warning: album only received gold, instead of double platinum labels like their past albums. Fortunately, Green Day won eight awards at the California Music Awards on 2001 for this album.

While Green Day was working on a new album, which was supposed to be entitled Cigarettes and Valentines, the master tapes of 20 complete tracks were stolen from their recording studio. In 2004, without trying to use their materials from the stolen album, Green Day released the 2004 American Idiot album, which instantly became #1 on different music charts.

All throughout 2005, Green Day did 150 shows promoting their album on a worldwide tour. To this day, Green Day remains a strong influence to modern punk rock bands.

Blackpool Nightlife

The night is alive in Blackpool, one of the best clubbing venues in the north as well as a favorite destination for fans of live music and live theatre performances. The club scene is electric in Blackpool, with the resort town offering hot dance music, pop and old school tunes as well as R’n'B every night of the week.

Located in central Promenade, the Palace is probably the hottest club in town, with a full capacity of 3,200 clubbers swinging and swaying to its stylish tunes on Fridays and Saturdays. The drinks may be a tad expensive, but the spaciousness and elegance of the venue as well as the quality of the dance music make it worthwhile.

The beach bar/club Linekers is near the Palace and can comfortably accommodate about 300 guests. Top 40 chart music is played here throughout the night. The much larger Jellies Nightclub along the Promenade plays the same kind of music but it boasts of three dance floors and five bars spread over two floors.

Club One Eleven on Central Promenade is the venue of choice for serious clubbers and it can accommodate as many as 1,100 of them at a time. The speakers blast out house and old school music all night long. Meanwhile, die-hard dancers converge at two other clubs nearby: Heaven & Hell on Bank Hey Street and Rumours on Talbot Square.

Over on Church street is the Syndicate Super Club, which has been officially named as the UK’s biggest club. Its three levels can house more than 5,000 people. Top guest DJs regularly perform here to the delight of delirious crowds. Right above the Syndicate Super Club is Status, a new nightclub that targets the 25 and above set.

Liquidlounge on Topping Street is best known for its futuristic style interiors and is favorite haven of the ultra hip and sophisticated. It usually plays sexy, non-commercial music.

Flares Nightclub on the Promenade is the home to the Saturday Night Fever crowd that love to dance the night away. The top dance hits of the 70s are brought back to life here while clubbers strut their funky stuff.

There are two other nightclubs of note on Promenade: Time and Waterfront. Time caters to the 25 and above set and plays everything from cheesy classics to indie tunes. Waterfront caters to the below 25 set and plays modern chart music.

Rock and heavy metals fans usually end up on The Tache Rock Venue on Cookson Street, which has been entertaining this crowd for over 13 years. Thursday is student night.

When it comes to live music, Blackpool has plenty of venues that play everything from jazz and blues to classical and opera. There is also a lot of pop and rock and plenty of opportunities to cross paths with a famous or rising pop star or band.

Blackpool’s theatres are the main venues to see big-time celebrities. The Winter Gardens, which has excellent venues such as the Spanish Hall and the Pavilion Theatre, usually host pop acts like Scissor Sisters and instrumental artists like Tommy Emanuel. The Opera House, which is also part of the Winter Gardens complex, has featured major stars such as Katie Melua, the Beach Boys, Status Quo, Jane McDonald and Daniel Bedingfield.

The Musical Hall Tavern on Church Street is an excellent venue for live music in a traditional club atmosphere. It was awarded second place in the Variety Club Category during the 2002 Blackpool Tourism awards. Pianist Andy Knight regularly thrills the crowd at the Music Hall Tavern.

Situated on Church Street, the Musical Hall Tavern was runner-up in the variety club category in the Blackpool Tourism awards in 2002. This venue plays host to many different acts, including Andy Knight, who wows the crowd with his piano classics. The neighboring K2 Bar offers a more contemporary live music menu, mainly focusing on dance tunes.

Scruffy Murphy’s on Corporation Street has live Irish folk music during weekends, while bands at The Kite Club on Talbot Road play blues and rock and roll. New and up and coming musical acts are regular features of the Galleon nightclub on Adelaide Street.

Theatre lovers absolutely adore Blackpool because it has four main theatres and is one of the best venues for musicals, drama and a wealth of other shows. Not only that, the theatres are highly regarded historical institutions as well.

The Grand Theatre on Church Street is the finest and most famous theatre in Blackpool. Located at the heart of the town’s tourist area, the Grand Theatre offers an array of shows each year, including classics like Ken Dodd to performances by the English National Ballet.

The Opera House at the Winter Gardens, Blackpool’s oldest theatre, opened its doors in June 1889 and is still going strong today.

The Pavilion Theatre, which is also within the Winter Gardens complex, has undergone many changes since it was built in the 19th century but today features plays, musicals and dance shows.

The North Pier Theatre features many great musical acts as well as cabaret performances. It provides the most intimate theatrical experience among the four.

What is a good camera to use for taking live photos of bands?

I'm wanting to get into photography a little more. I need a camera that will be able to take good quality pictures. A camera that will still have good quality in rooms with less lighting. What would be a good camera to invest in?

Would consider the least expensive Canon Camcorder, but this camera at Best Buy is a great camera and a best buy. It has an optical viewfinder, image stabilizer, auto focus, and uses NiMH rechargeable batteries. Read as much of the following as you can for other information and help with choosing a camera.
Canon A590IS $129.99 at Staples yesterday.
http://bountii.com/deal-1523871-canon-powershot-8-0-megapixel.html …

There is no one particular place to get great buys, but you may see something above that really helps you find the best buy. Click on the link in the information above for an example then search for your camera of choice at the upper left. Camera prices at this link change often.

While most of the cameras out there are really good, I would choose Canon over Nikon because it seems like more camera for the money. Some would say Canon withholds their best technology for high end cameras and Nikon implements their best at all levels. Before you decide, read all the text and links in the information below because it will help you know what to look for in a camera.

There are so many cameras out there it is difficult to say which is best, but digital is definitely the way to go. The second source link will be very helpful as it list most of the cameras out there with prices. The following information should help you know what to look for in a camera.

What gives a camera its picture quality?
The short answer is that it is mostly the skill of the photographer that produces high quality pictures. The lens and camera are very important, but the ability to set the scene, adjust the cameras settings, and hold the camera very still or use a tripod with auto or remote shutter actuation when required is what gets the great pictures.

In new cameras, look for optical viewfinders (LCD invisible in bright sun) and check battery prices. High mega pixel settings take longer to process and may not be needed unless required for very large pictures or enlarging small parts of big pictures. Maximum print size for a 3 mega pixel setting is 8 x 10 inches. Click links below for more details.

Wide-angle shooting, a 12x optical zoom and picture stabilization mode combine in this camera for exceptional shooting performance, even at a distance. The information about my camera is just to show that you don't need the biggest and best. Just know how to use the one you have.

My camera has 5.2 mega pixel, but I use 3 most of the time because it gives great results, is faster, and takes less memory. Also, it only has a 3 x optical zoom and 7 x digital zoom. I never use the digital zoom because making pictures larger works better on the computer. This is an old camera, but everyone is impressed with the quality pictures it takes … like magic.

Check with the Geeks in several stores and compare prices. Ask what cameras they own, but don't believe everything you hear. Once you select a camera read all about it in the owner's manual. Just learned that my camera has red-eye prevention and correction. It also has adaptive lighting. You may be able to view owners manuals at this link, but will need to Login. http://www.retrevo.com/s/digital+camera …

The source links will show most of the cameras out there with prices and help make your digital cameras work better.

Entertainment in Newcastle-upon-tyne

As a major English city Newcastle-upon-Tyne has a full and lively selection of places to eat, drink and be merry.

Bars and Pubs:

If you’re arriving in Newcastle by train at the Central station, an ideal venue for meeting someone is the Centurion bar, which is actually located in the station. It was originally the station’s ‘first-class waiting room’ and now it is a bar and brasserie of high quality.

The Head of Steam, on Neville Street, just outside the Central station, has a relaxed atmosphere and bands play in the basement most evenings.

Two pubs located on ‘The Side’ are the Agora and the Crown Posada. The Agora is known for its jazz and funky atmosphere. The Crown Posada is a Victorian theme pub and has both local and guest beers.

Popolo, on Pilgrim Street, is an American themed bar and tends to attract a somewhat older clientele.

If you fancy something a bit ‘retro’ and utterly cool, try the Trent House (also known as the Trent House Soul Bar – motto “Drink Beer Be Sincere”) on Leazes Lane. Although it’s a bit out of the true centre of the city, it does have an old style vinyl jukebox and a Space Invaders machine.

Like most cities today, the Quayside is where the more sophisticated bars are located - ‘pick-of-the-bunch’ is probably the Pitcher & Piano.

Restaurants:

Whilst fast-food outlets and cheap Indian and Chinese restaurants seem to be everywhere there are some excellent restaurants worth finding. Many city centre restaurants offer cheap lunch and early evening prices.

Top of the class is probably the Café 21, located at number 21 Queen Street. It’s a classic bistro with a menu to match. It might appear expensive, but considering the quality of the food and the service you get it is well worth it.

Secco Restorante Salentino on Pilgrim Street is another of the more ‘classy’ restaurants in Newcastle. Its menus are a quirky mix of south Italian dishes prepared with local ingredients.

Should you fancy mussels served with chips and mayo the Big Mussel, on Side Street, will offer you seven variations on the theme. Middle priced and middle fayre.

Blackfriars Café (Friar Street) and Paradiso Café Bar (Market Lane) are both popular and well priced at between £7 to £15 for a main course. Blackfriars is located in the 12th Century refectory of a Dominican monastery, thus it is the oldest purpose built eating place in the country.

Cafés well worth mentioning for a cheaper bite to eat include; Café Live (at 27, Broad Chare by the Live theatre), Blake’s Coffee House (53 Grey Street, with a great selection of coffees), Intermezzo (Pilgrim street, convenient for the Tyneside Cinema) and Pani’s (look for High Bridge Street off Grey Street, this place is convenient for the Theatre Royal).

Entertainment:

Nightlife in Newcastle can tend to be in-your-face, full-on and no messing about!

However, starting off a little more gently the Theatre Royal has a long and proud tradition of being the Royal Shakespeare Company’s residence in October and November. Whilst throughout the year it hosts numerous touring companies and productions including ballet, opera, drama, musicals, comedies and of course a pantomime. The Theatre Royal is on Grey Street heading out of the city towards Grey’s monument.

Newcastle City Hall, on Northumberland Road (on the right off Northumberland Street as you head out of the city towards the Civic centre) is another famous venue for performances by bands, singers, musicians, comedians and events in need of a large space. However, in recent years the City Hall has lost its number one spot as a music venue to the Metroradio Arena Newcastle. Located on the banks of the Tyne behind the Central railway station, it is not only the venue for ‘big-name’ music bands, but touring shows and some indoor sports events.

Although strictly speaking in Gateshead, the new Sage, designed by Norman Foster with its distinct chrome and glass curves, has to be mentioned. Sage is now the home of the Northern Sinfonia and is widely used to showcase less well known folk, traditional and community bands/performers.

Smaller theatres include Northern Stage (off Barras Bridge) which houses small regional and touring groups of theatrical and musical performers. Also used for smaller venue/productions are the Live Theatre (Broad Chare) and the Journal Tyne Theatre (Westgate Road).

Newcastle does, of course, have a Carling Academy, which is on Fenkle Street near the city wall. It has a 2000 capacity and plays host to all the ‘usual suspects’ in the touring rock world.

There is no shortage of night-clubs in Newcastle with a range of styles to suit everyone. Top of the list is probably World Headquarters on Carliol Square. The club is actually inside Curtis Mayfield House, which gives a big clue as to the ambience and music played there. “No sponsors, No corporates, No sell-out” is its motto and laid-back, almost to the point of falling over, is its style.

Tuxedo Princess is a floating nightclub off Hillgate Quay. Again, strictly speaking, this is in Gateshead, but it is a very popular venue with its seven bars and seven styles of music. It can be raucous at times and is not for the reclusive or timid visitor. Also, at Hillgate Quay is the Baja Beach Club, known locally as the ‘Badgers’. Palm trees, surfing regalia and barmaids wearing bikinis should give you a picture of what to expect. Revellers here have been known to become “tired and emotional”.

The Foundation in Melbourne Street offers to some a more stylish experience, although others might say that it’s a typical warehouse/loud sound/dazzling lights club. You’ll have to visit it to make up your own mind on that one! Its ‘specials’ are the Thursday ‘indie’ night and a ‘funky house’ on Saturdays. This is where in Newcastle the big name DJs will perform.

Jazz café “does what it says” and can be found on Pink Lane.

If you just want to ‘catch a movie’, go to the Tyneside Cinema on Pilgrim Street, not far from Grey’s monument.

There is a gay quarter in Newcastle which is simply called the ’Gay Quarter’. It’s centred around the International Centre for Life, which is near the railway and coach stations. Pick up the ‘Crack’ magazine from the tourist information office for more details.

Tourist information offices are located in the Guildhall and the Central Arcade and have the current information on all events in the city.
