Is it against the law to watch live bootlegs of bands on youtube?

I know everyone does it but is it legal? I was watching a Tool bootleg on youtube from the All Points West Festival that a fan recorded. Is that against the law since it is bootleg?

No, it’s not illegal to watch bootlegs on youtube. It’s illegal to upload them though.

Usually it’s not legal, however nobody cares. Various factors such as whether or not the music is "free", which country the bootleg was taken in, the country the bootleg is being watched from, etc…

Once again I’d like to reiterate that NOBODY CARES, nothing bad will happen to you if you watch a thousand bootlegs on youtube. I’ve downloaded about 200 dvd movies using bit torrent and over 2,000 songs, nobody cares and it is not wrong. The worst that can happen is civil action.

What if someone on youtube put up a video with a title such as "my cat fluffy" and instead is a music video. Even if you heard the entire music video, how would you know that it’s copyrighted and why would you be at fault?
