Dude, you are lucky, I wish I have had and old POS to drive when I was seventeen. I couldn't afford a car until I finish college.
Please, don't go into a loan, even with a scholarship college is expensive, it is better to have an old car that no car at all. And financing a car is expensive for young driver if you have to pay a lot in insurance.

By the way, now I have a good job and I drive an old banger, because I want. I don't care about what other people think about that. Their loss. I know people who barely can eat because they are paying leases or fancy expensive cars.
References :
Welcome to the real world moron. You cant convince you have to show them you are responsible and that does not happen overnight. Please your 17 youve had youre drivers for what a whole year and trust me $7 an hour will not get u a new car.a year is not that long to wait and beleive me waiting is a pretty good idea becouse you would problably wreck anything that had more than 90 horse. If mommy and daddy will pay for your college and not a car there must be a good reason.Listen to your father,he knows what he is talking about.
References :
I was actually in your situation once, i had a crappy 12 yo taurus and it was at the point of breakdown and i wanted to get a new car right away but my parents said no. So i ended up having to wait and it turns out that it was better that way. I know its probably annoying hearing ur dad say that but think about it, in just one more year, you could save up more money and get an even better car, trust me, senior year flies. Anyway, I did that now I hav a pretty hot car, a cop magnet, but nice none the less. Anyway, if ur still not convinced, u might wanna try doin extra chores or something, always go for the soft spot, thats waht i do.
References :
Wait till your 18, you cannot sign a contract until then anyway. As for getting yourself locked in on a car loan, when you have other responsibilities heading your way, I'd think that one over. It's not your parents responsibility to pay for your college, and those student loans you speak of, do need to be paid back. If you are going into medicine, it will be a long while before you will be earning the money needed to pay for these loans, plus car insurance, maintenance/repairs, and any emergency that you may be struck with. Since you do want a professional career, I think you know the discipline needed to succeed, think over the instant gratification, and go for your goal.
References :
Sounds like your a responsible teenager. Your working, saving your money, going to be going to college. Maybe sit your parents down, talk to them about this. Talk about the type of car you want for that price. I guess you can say lets get the loan and if I fall behind on payments they can take the car away. I can't see why they wouldn't let you get a car.
References :
How do I convince my parents I'm deserving of a new car?
I am a 17 year old soon to be senior in high school. I'm working about 30 hours a week this summer making $7 per hour. I have $3000 saved up in my bank and I'm fairly confident that I'll be receiving some sort of scholarship to college. (I'd like to go into medicine though so it could be expensive.) Money is not an issue here though because my parents can afford college and I'll have student loans. Aside from all that I drive a piece of shit 1994 light blue ford ranger truck. It is the slowest p.o.s. on the road reaching 60 in about 30 seconds. It tops out at about 70 mph and has no air bags. It has zero options and I'm just sick of it. I want to take out about a $13,000 loan to get a nice new or used car. I could make the monthly payments but my father insists I wait until next year then spend my well earned money. When he was my age he drove a '70 Chevelle SS, his dream car. He is a car enthusiast to say the least, but he wont let me get a car even if i pay. What can I do?
Its very difficult as my friends all have their DREAM cars also. 2001 camaro SS, 2007 mustang GT, 2004 pontiac GTO, and a 1999 Camaro. Yeah, its very tough to have this truck when I'm surrounded like this...
I'm trying to get a 2001 Pontiac Trans Am by the way, which my parents are fine with. They know I'm responsible and wont kill myself.
